Jamie Carragher believes David de Gea is the second best goalkeeper in Premier League history.

De Gea has established himself as one of the world’s leading keepers over the past few years at Manchester United.

The Spaniard endured a difficult first season at the club, but has won seven trophies in six years at Old Trafford.

Carragher believes that not only is the 26-year-old the best keeper in the world currently, he is second only to United legend Peter Schmeichel in the Premier League’s history.

“From what I see, if I was picking a world XI then David de Gea would be in it,” he told Monday Night Football.

“We are lucky that we have the Premier League’s greatest-ever goalkeeper here,” he added, sitting alongside Schmeichel, “but I think De Gea is second.

“There have been some great Premier League goalkeepers – David Seaman, Petr Cech, especially when he was at Chelsea – but I would have De Gea second.”
