Jamie Carragher believes Jose Mourinho is “embarrassing” Chelsea with his media musings, but that the Portuguese is not totally to blame.
Mourinho, who has been handed a one-match stadium ban, has come in for much derision not only for Chelsea’s terrible start to the season, but for his post-match antics in particular.
The Portuguese refused his media duties after Chelsea lost to West Ham in their penultimate game, and barely answered reporters questions directly after his side suffered their sixth defeat of an 11-game league season against Liverpool on Saturday.
John Nicholson has implored journalists to stand up to Mourinho and challenge him, and Carragher now claims the manager’s antics are “embarrassing” for both him and the club.
“He has to change some things and these interviews have got to stop, because they’re embarrassing him and they’re embarrassing the club,” Carragher told Sky Sports.
“Maybe he’s trying to create a siege mentality but I don’t think the players would be totally agreeing with the manager, blaming referees. Chelsea were very poor at the weekend.
“This paranoia has got to stop, that the world is against them because they’re not.
“I’m a massive fan of Jose Mourinho and I’d like him to stay because there’s been too many changes in the past at Chelsea,” Carragher added
“These players performances have been shocking. It’s about time we took more of a look at them. The manager is always in the spotlight.”
