Liverpool should agree a “big fee” with Barcelona for Philippe Coutinho to leave in the summer, according to Jamie Carragher.
Coutinho has been the subject of intense interest from Barca for the past few transfer windows, and it will be no different this January.
Spanish media believe a move to the Nou Camp is ‘very, very, very close’, but Liverpool might yet hold firm in their insistence that the Brazilian is not for sale.
Carragher feels that the Reds would be well-served to keep Coutinho until the summer, before selling him for a probable record fee.
“[The] best thing [Liverpool] is [to] agree the BIG fee for Coutinho to go in the summer like we’ve done with [Naby] Keita, not now,” Carragher tweeted.
“What do the club gain by doing it now? Top four & [Champions League] progression [is] seriously risked if they sell in January, and [it will be] difficult to replace him now.
“If he goes on strike he damages himself.”
