Carrington ends perfect U’s start

Jermaine Easter’s first-half penalty and former Crewe midfielder Carrington’s neat 55th minute clincher knocked the managerless U’s off top spot, before Scott Vernon pulled a goal back late on.
The Dons dominated the first half and, after Jemal Johnson and Luke Chadwick had both missed good chances, Easter put them ahead from the penalty spot in the 22nd minute.
The former Plymouth striker picked himself up after he had been barged over in the box by U’s skipper Pat Baldwin to slot his second goal of the season low past goalkeeper Ben Williams.
Easter fired straight at Williams one-on-one before Carrington doubled the Dons’ lead in the 55th minute, bursting past last defender Magnus Okuonghae to round Williams and slot the ball into the empty net.
Striker Vernon threw Colchester a lifeline by heading David Fox’s pin-point cross past Gueret from 10 yards in the 68th minute but, despite some late pressure, they were unable to muster an equaliser.
