Carroll follows Olsson through Swansea door

Swansea have signed Tom Carroll on a busy day of transfer activity for the Premier League strugglers.

Tottenham midfielder Carroll joined on a three-and-a-half year deal at the Liberty Stadium just hours after Sweden defender Martin Olsson completed his move from Norwich.

The England Under-21 international, who made 18 appearances during a Swansea loan spell two seasons ago, had made only one brief appearance in the Premier League at Spurs this season.

Carroll told the official Swansea website: “It definitely helps knowing quite a few of the lads from my loan spell, while I know (assistant coach) Nigel Gibbs and (head of physical performance) Karl Halabi too.

“Knowing the players and staff allows you to settle quicker than normal.

“It can take time to settle in at a new club, but having some familiar faces around the place will help me get going straight away.

“I know what the club is about too, and I know the playing style suits me so that was a big factor in me coming here.”

Watford-born Carroll made his Spurs debut in a Europa League tie at Hearts in August 2011, and had loan spells at Leyton Orient, Derby and QPR as well spending the 2014-15 season at Swansea.

Carroll made 56 appearances in total for Spurs, although only four of his 25 starts came in the Premier League.

The move was agreed after Spurs accepted an initial offer, believed to be £5million.

Left-back Olsson signed from Sky Bet Championship side Norwich for an undisclosed fee understood to be £4million.

The 28-year-old bolsters Swansea resources in an area weakened by the loss of Neil Taylor to a fractured cheekbone suffered in training last week.

Swansea are currently bottom of the Premier League and new head coach Paul Clement has now signed Carroll, Olsson and PSV Eindhoven winger Luciano Narsingh since being appointed two weeks ago.

“I’ve known Paul for a few years and he’s a good man,” Olsson told the official Swansea website.

“I like the way he trains – it is intense – and I can’t wait to start working with him.

“The squad plays good football, even with the position the team is in now, and I don’t think the club should be down there. It’s a good team.

“A few seasons ago Swansea were very high up in the table, and they haven’t lost too many players since then.”
