Santi Cazorla has hailed his Arsenal teammate and defensive midfielder Francis Coquelin as “one of the best players in this position”.
Coquelin enjoyed an excellent breakthrough season at the Emirates last campaign, making 30 appearances and providing some steel to the midfield after returning from loan at Charlton in December.
The Frenchman’s performance have since come in for scrutiny despite his statistics remaining impressive, with Arsene Wenger questioned for not signing any competition for the 24-year-old.
But Cazorla was full of praise for the Coq, praising his midfield partner as “one of the best” in his position.
“It’s amazing playing with him. He’s helped me a lot,” the Spaniard told Arsenal’s official website. “He plays well, he defends well and I think he’s one of the best players in this position.
“We are lucky because he plays for Arsenal and I enjoy it a lot with him in this position.”
Speaking on improvements in his own performances, Cazorla added: “I feel better every game. The most important thing for me is always to help the team.
“I had an assist for Giroud and I had so many chances to score but the keeper made good saves.
“I feel good and I always want to help the team, that’s the most important thing for me.”
