Chelsea and Atletico Madrid are finally in talks about the transfer of Diego Costa and a transfer ‘should be finalised this week’, according to reports in Spain.
The Premier League champions were initially refusing to negotiate unless Costa returned to London but have now backed down, with the Spanish international still in his native Brazil.
Costa is now expected to return to Europe, first to London and then to Madrid, though he will not be able to play for Atletico until January.
Marca claim that ‘a fee of around 60 million euros is being discussed, which would make Costa the most expensive signing in Atleti history’, though there is some suggestion that the deal could include significant add-ons.
Chelsea return to the Champions League this week but did not include Costa in their squad.
