Chelsea boss reveals Kane would be his dream striker

Chelsea manager Antonio Conte admits that Tottenham’s Harry Kane is the ‘complete’ player and would be his dream striker.

The Blues boss did not suggest that he was attempting to sign Kane, however, having just shelled out £58m on Real Madrid’s Alvaro Morata.

The Italian spoke to Sky Sports on his admiration of the England international, and believes he is key to his rivals’ title chances this season: “Tottenham is a really good squad if they are able to keep all the players. For me, Kane, now, is one of the best strikers in the world.

“If I had to buy one striker I would go to Kane. He is a complete striker. He is strong physically, with the ball, without the ball, he fights and he’s strong in the air and acrobatic on the right and the left.”

Conte even went as far as to suggest that signing Kane would cost a world-record fee:

“He’s a complete player. He’s one of the top strikers in the world. If you go to buy Kane now it would be at least £100m. At least. For me, if I see this price for a striker I know for sure he’s a big striker.”

Kane has finished as the Premier League’s top goalscorer in the past two successive seasons, and has 19 caps for England.

However, it was Kane’s compatriot and former Spurs teammate Kyle Walker that Conte did attempt to purchase, but the club missed out as Manchester City snapped up the right-back for a hefty £50m.

The Italian lamented both being priced out of a move for the defender, and the price of players in general in the current inflated transfer market:

“We tried to buy Walker. Honestly, I think now every single player is expensive. For you to even enquire about one player, he is expensive.

“You go to buy a right-back, a left-back or a central defender and he is expensive. It is very difficult in the transfer market for the teams that need to improve their squads.”

Thus far, Conte has made five summer signings, adding Antonio Rudiger, Tiemoue Bakayoko, and free transfers Willy Caballero and Ethan Ampadu to the ranks alongside Morata.
