Cesar Azpilicueta has joined the cries for Chelsea to sign more players this summer.
The Blues started their Premier League title defence with a whimper on Saturday, slumping to a 3-2 home defeat to Burnley.
They have signed four first-team players so far this transfer window, with Willy Caballero, Tiemoue Bakayoko, Alvaro Morata and Antonio Rudiger all arriving at Stamford Bridge.
But they have lost 11 from the squad since the start of the calendar year, and manager Antonio Conte is growing increasingly frustrated at a lack of action.
‘Can Chelsea navigate the transfer tightrope again?‘ we asked in June. It is a resounding ‘No’ thus far.
“When you see the players we lost, and the players we have signed in, they are not the same,” Azpilicueta said at the weekend.
“”Obviously we have very good young players, but we have to know the reality that being champions is even harder the next season. We have experience of that.
“So we need players. The young players need help from senior players, top players, not to rush them into a position where they are maybe not ready to go at the moment.
“It is something that the club is working on with the manager, and hopefully we can get new signings in the next few weeks.”
