City line up Arteta as Pep’s successor with new deal

Mikel Arteta is poised to sign a new contract at Manchester City as the club’s hierarchy view him as a potential successor to Pep Guardiola, according to reports.

The former Everton midfielder missed out on the Arsenal job to Unai Emery – who is expected to be confirmed as the man to replace Arsene Wenger later this week – after being strong favourite for the job over the last week or so.

Arteta was one of ten candidates interviewed for the position at the Emirates Stadium but reports claim Emery’s presentation and vision blew the Arsenal board away.

Guardiola and Man City chairman Khaldoon Al-Mubarak were ‘two of the first people on the phone’ to the Spaniard after he missed out on the job, claim The Telegraph.

And Arteta is now set to stay at the Etihad Stadium in his current role and the report in The Telegraph continues by saying that he is likely to receive a new deal.
