Conte ‘doesn’t do second place’, says Buffon
Gianluigi Buffon has words of encouragement for Chelsea fans after admitting he isn’t surprised at Antonio Conte’s impact on the club.
The Italy international was under Conte’s tutelage at Juventus between 2011 and 2014 where they won three Serie A titles together before Conte took the national team job.
And, after a mixed start to the Premier League season, it hasn’t come as a shock to Buffon that the Blues now lead the standings by four points.

“It doesn’t surprise me at all that Chelsea are top of the Premier League. He [Conte] is a winner, he doesn’t do second place,” Buffon told Fox Sports.
“I am sure behind the scenes he has privately been getting players into line.”
Buffon also thinks that no European football will be a blessing as the season goes on for Conte’s men.
“They have a great chance in the league. Not only do they have one of the best coaches in Europe – but not competing in Europe they have a week between games which is going to help them a lot as the season goes on.”
