Antonio Conte has granted his Chelsea squad two extra days off after the 4-1 defeat to Watford.
The players were scheduled to return to training on Wednesday after taking Tuesday off following Monday night’s game.
But Conte has given them an extra two days off, meaning they will return to training on Friday instead.
The Blues face West Brom in another Monday evening fixture next week, and the London Evening Standard report that Conte believes performances have slipped due to ‘fatigue’.
He has thus given them ‘a rare opportunity to rest’ ahead of their game against bottom club West Brom at Stamford Bridge.
There is a belief that Conte’s training methods are to blame, with the Italian maintaining the same ‘intense training schedule’ he adopted to great effect last season.
But with the addition of Champions League football to the calendar, the strain is showing on the players.
