Chelsea hope to have Alvaro Morata back next week but Antonio Conte had less positive news over N’Golo Kante.
Morata sustained a hamstring injury during the 1-0 defeat to Man City before the international break, while Kante picked up a similar problem while on France duty. The pair joined new signing Danny Drinkwater in the treatment room.
Ahead of Saturday’s clash with Crystal Palace and next week’s Champions League meeting with Roma, Conte offered an update on the health of his squad.
“Team news, bad news. As you know very well we have three injured players,” he began on Friday.
“Morata I hope to have him back very soon, I hope for the next game against Roma.
“Drinkwater is progressing well but is not ready yet. We must have patience with him, with his calf problem.
“Then the last, Kante, we are going to do a scan next week to check his situation if he is improving. It is a hamstring problem, this is a big loss for us. The initial scan says 20-25 days, but you need another scan after one week to understand the situation very well. For sure it is a big loss.
“You know very well the importance of Kante and we don’t have another player with the same characteristic. We are not lucky in this period. In midfield we only have Bakayoko and Fabregas available.
“We have seven games in one month and we have to find different solutions, to adapt defenders in midfield. Or give the opportunities to youngsters like Kyle Scott and Ethan Ampadu.
“We have to hope no more injuries for these games.”
