Diego Costa admits “I have to improve” at Chelsea, with the striker adding that he “made a mistake” in throwing his bib at Jose Mourinho.
Costa flung his bib behind his head and towards Mourinho when he failed to make it off the substitutes’ bench in Chelsea’s 0-0 draw at Tottenham at the end of last month.
Costa now acknowledges he was wrong to show such dissent but says he has not fallen out with the manager over the incident.
“The bib [incident] is in the past. I made a mistake, but my relationship with Mourinho is amazing, we get on really well,” Costa told Onda Cero.
“There are things you need to control, but the bib thing was an impulse.”
Costa again started on the bench in the weekend defeat to Bournemouth before returning to the starting line-up for Wednesday’s 2-0 win over Porto which earned the Blues a place in the last 16 of the Champions League.
However, Costa failed to improve on a record of only four goals in 19 games and has admitted he must get better.
“I have to improve a bit,” Costa added.
“The start of the season has not been good for me – not in how I have played nor in goals.”
