Philippe Coutinho is suffering from “a very great sadness”, according to Brazil teammate Neymar.
Coutinho is yet to feature for Liverpool this season, with his future at Anfield uncertain.
The playmaker wishes to join Barcelona and submitted a transfer request in August, but with the La Liga transfer deadline closing on Friday, his chances of moving are slim to none.
Friday brought fresh reports that Barca could make on final move to sign him for £148million this summer, but Liverpool remain unmoved in their stance that they do not wish to sell.
Coutinho’s absence from the Liverpool side so far this season has been explained as a back problem, then an illness, but he featured for Brazil as they beat Ecuador in World Cup qualifying on Thursday.
He scored in a 2-0 victory, and teammate Neymar discussed his situation after the game.
“I’m very happy because he has scored a goal,” Neymar told Mundo Deportivo. “At this moment he lives in a very great sadness, but he helped us in the victory.
“He is a great player, a craque! He played really well.”
