Deadline day gossip: Relive it. Re-love it
All the completed January deals can be found here.
So, January 2017’s transfer deadline day was quite something, wasn’t it? Burnley were the biggest spenders in the Premier League, which pretty much sums up the whole thing. You can relive it all below. Because the transfer window is now SLAMMED SHUT.
00.00: I’m afraid this is the last stop, people. You’re going to have to get off here. Clubs have up until 1am to finalise their business, but only the four deals below seem even vaguely likely. We’ll be back again on Wednesday morning to sweep up your mess, you mucky pups.
23.44: It seems as though there are just four Premier League deals that are on the brink of going through. Mamadou Sakho and Arouna Kone to Crystal Palace are yet to be confirmed, Kamil Grosicki has been pictured in a Hull shirt but still nothing official as of yet, and Middlesbrough’s £10m sale of Jordan Rhodes to Sheffield Wednesday is still up in the air.
23.34: Some large Championship news, as Aston Villa confirm the signing of Scott Hogan from Brentford for a fee rising to a potential £12m.
23.12: Neither club has confirmed the news yet, but Mamadou Sakho’s loan to Crystal Palace from Liverpool is pretty much done.
23.07: Looks like Kamil Grosicki to Hull is done. Jim White is positively erect.
22.59: Swansea have turned down a loan approach from Southampton for Jordi Amat. Phew.
22.55: Arsenal have just loaned out about five bloody players. And Tony Pulis confirms that Marc Wilson is headed to West Brom. Five minutes left (but loads more in reality)…
22.50: Arsenal midfielder Krystian Bielik has joined Birmingham on loan.
22.47: Just a little update on Sakho: It’s a loan deal, Palace will pay a £2m fee up front, and will cover the whole cost of his wages.
22.45: Mamadou Sakho has arrived at Crystal Palace. The deal is basically done, folks.
22.19: Now then.
Allardyce says that Arouna Kone is of interest to Palace, so too Liverpool's Sakho.
— Seb Stafford-Bloor (@SebSB) January 31, 2017
22.10: Sky Sports’ man has confirmed that Newcastle’s move for Andros Townsend is now off. The list dwindles.
22.08: Rob Dorsett of Sky Sports is lovely, so has two updates for us:
Ross McCormack currently undergoing a medical at #nffc ahead of proposed loan move from #avfc. Forest came back with bigger loan fee offer.
— Rob Dorsett (@RobDorsettSky) January 31, 2017
#LCFC finally complete signing of Molla Wague. 11hrs of negotiations. Initial loan from Udinese. Option to buy off Granada in summer.
— Rob Dorsett (@RobDorsettSky) January 31, 2017
22.03: Gabbiadini is done, so you can cross him off the list. One step closer to Kim Kallstrom’s glorious return.
21.53: So those pesky games are finally over, giving teams an hour or so to finalise any deals. The following ones remain up in the air for now:
Manolo Gabbiadini (Napoli to Southampton)
Andros Townsend (Crystal Palace to Newcastle)
Mamadou Sakho (Liverpool to Crystal Palace)
Arouna Kone (Everton to Crystal Palace)
Kamil Grosicki (Rennes to Hull)
Marc Wilson (Bournemouth to West Brom)
Kim Kallstrom (HE’S A FREE AGENT, ARSENE)
21.49: Crystal Palace have confirmed the signing of that midfielder bloke from Olympiakos. Luka something or other.
21.43: The first reply to this tweet is ‘not now’. The official Aston Villa account waited a couple of minutes after losing 3-0 to Brentford to break this news.

Taylor will bump into Jordan Ayew on his journey from south Wales to Villa Park; the striker is headed the other way in a swap deal.
21.32: Ravel Morrison ought to grow up.

21.19: And we thought Tony Pulis wouldn’t be getting his centre-half.
It must be that time of day… Marc Wilson arrives at West Brom training ground to complete loan move from Bournemouth #wbafc
— Ed Aarons (@ed_aarons) January 31, 2017
21.10: He spent the morning being linked with Watford, but Newcastle goalkeeper Tim Krul has secured a move to Z Alkmaar instead.
20.59: Kamil Grosicki. Yannis Salibur. Both are en-route to Hull City, according to French newspaper L’Equipe.
20.48: ‘Record-breaking Premier League star joins Leeds’
That’s my working headline for Leeds signing Modou Barrow, the Premier League’s first ever Gambian goalscorer, on loan. Impressive, right?
20.47: Manolo Gabbiadini has been in and around Southampton pretty much all day. He’s conducting a medical right now, according to Jim White. And that’s a man who knows things.
20.45: That Arouna Kone to Crystal Palace thing is a bit weird. Basically, Palace will simply take over Kone’s contract at Everton, which expires in the summer. Simple.
20.33:
BREAKING: We are delighted to announce the club record signing of Robbie Brady from @CanariesFC on a three-and-a-half year deal. pic.twitter.com/CRiukqkPm8
— Burnley FC (@BurnleyOfficial) January 31, 2017
As Sarah Winterburn just said: ‘Imagine breaking your club transfer record for Robbie Brady.’
20.11: Have that.

20.03: When he isn’t calling out his employers for being naughty, Matt Law of the Daily Telegraph often spends his time breaking Chelsea news. His latest update involves Asmir Begovic and a Premier League club, but it’s not Bournemouth. No, it’s Watford who offered £10m and Heurelho Gomes for the keeper. The Blues were not interested. Probably can’t afford Gomes’ wages.
19.39: Branislav Ivanovic is not a man who smiles on camera. His Chelsea exit is not officially confirmed but, y’know…
OFFICIAL: Branislav Ivanovic has joined Zenit on a permanent basis from Chelsea. #DeadlineDay pic.twitter.com/S6WFonlbdy
— Bolarinwa Olajide (@iambolar) January 31, 2017
19.15: Confirmation has finally come through that Watford have sold Odion Ighalo for £20m. Pure witchcraft.
19.10: So Moussa Dembele is staying at Celtic. But if you thought that was the end of the story, you were wrong. It is expected that Chelsea will renew their interest in the young French forward in the summer.
Oh, and Get French Football have a pretty sizeable scoop on what Chelsea offered Celtic for Dembele. They claim that the Premier League leaders bid £35m for his services. They add that the offer was made at around 2pm this afternoon, which is a simply delightful piece of necessary information.
19.01: Another Manchester City loan…
David Faupala has joined @ChesterfieldFC on loan until April 30.
Good luck, @DavidFaupala9! #mcfc pic.twitter.com/j9cl7VbpVO
— Manchester City (@ManCity) January 31, 2017
18.42: Turns out that Arouna Kone to Crystal Palace might be a thing. Wonder what Roberto Martinez thinks of that.
18.29: An update on the Nathan Ake situation for you now. Andy Dillon of The Sun insists that ‘there’s absolutely no chance’ of the deal happening. And he knows his Chelsea stuff.
18.17: Oxford relocates to Reading.

What else ? ?????? pic.twitter.com/Zp4IQRmjPH
— Moussa Dembélé (@MDembele_10) January 31, 2017
17.57: There is a theory that Jordan Rhodes exists only in the confines of the Championship. This confirms it:
Sky Sources: Sheffield Wednesday & Middlesbrough have agreed a fee of around of £10m for Jordan Rhodes. Player having medical. #SWFC #MFC
— David Garrido (@SkySportsDavid) January 31, 2017
17.54: Looks like Adlene Guedioura is the bad guy all the chicks want. Both Middlesbrough and Hull are battling for the £4m-rated Watford midfielder. It appears that he has chosen to join the former.
17.50: Dean Jones of Bleacher Report claims that Galatasaray made a loan approach for Vincent Janssen. Tottenham did not entertain it.
17.45: This is huge. And it comes from Jack Pitt-Brooke of The Independent, so you know it’s reliable. His exclusive is as follows:
Exclusive: Bournemouth stun Chelsea with £18million bid for defender Nathan Ake – move is up to the player https://t.co/YTYsX0VNXX pic.twitter.com/U0F1IPt0r0
— Indy Football (@IndyFootball) January 31, 2017
The offer is apparently so high that Chelsea are happy to accept it. They have left the decision down to Ake. Either stay at Chelsea as a squad member, or become Bournemouth’s most expensive player ever, and a bonafide first teamer. Tough.
17.43: Reports Sky Sports News HQ’s man at West Brom.
“Tony Pulis wants a central defender.”
Obviously. But he goes on to say that ain’t nothing happening at The Hawthorns.
17.39: Let’s hit you with a quadruple Football League transfer update:
Liam O’Neil moves to Cambridge from Chesterfield.
Carlton Morris joins Rotherham on loan from Norwich.
Jean-Louis Akpa Akpro heads to Yeovil on loan from Barnet.
Rohan Ince is loaned out by Brighton to Swindon.
17.30: Michael Duckworth. Fleetwood’s Michael Duckworth. Now Morecambe’s Michael Duckworth. On loan. Huge.
17.26: Sky Sports are reporting that Nottingham Forest have had two bids rejected by Bolton for Zach Clough. Hilarity just ensued over the 21-year-old’s surname. It’s been that kind of day.
17.21: Odion Ighalo has completed his medical ahead of a £20million move to an unnamed Chinese Super League side, who have actually been named but I can’t be arsed to copy and paste it right now. That move should go through soon. Joy.
17.14: An actual deal for actual money, here. Hold on a second while I try and catch my bloody breath.

For what it’s worth, the deal is not yet confirmed by either club, and those in the know state that paperwork is not yet sorted. But hey, he’s holding the darn shirt.
17.04: Well, this is something that absolutely won’t happen. The Daily Mirror claim that Tottenham will launch a ‘last-gasp attempt’ to sign Jay Rodriguez from Southampton. No chance.
16.51: Brendan Rodgers has basically told them to bugger off, but Chelsea are not the kind of side to take no for an answer. Mike Keegan of the Daily Mail reports that their transfer window business might not be over just yet.
‘Chelsea have not given up hope of signing Craig Gordon before the transfer deadline in a move that would pave the way for Asmir Begovic to join Bournemouth,’ he writes.
He adds that the Premier League leaders will test Rodgers’ and Celtic’s resolve by making another bid. Sure. You’d think most Chelsea eyes would be on Anfield tonight.
16.49: Burnley make their second signing of the January window.

16.44: Two more departures for Hull, and two more arrivals for Wigan. James Weir and Alex Bruce jump a ship bound for the Championship to move to the Championship.
16.30: Another Premier League loan has gone through, but at least we’ve heard of this guy. Jerome Sinclair will be spending the rest of the season at Birmingham. He only joined Watford in the summer. They’re good at the transfers.

16.10: A PREMIER LEAGUE TRANSFER. A PREMIER LEAGUE TRANSFER. KAYLEN HINDS HAS JOINED STEVENAGE ON LOAN FROM ARSENAL. WHO THE F*** IS KAYLEN HINDS?
16.02: “This is deadline day. Anything can happen.”
Those words were just spoken on Sky Sports News HQ, and so it comes to pass. Four deals have gone through in the past two minutes. Nicky Ajose has joined Swindon on loan. Alfonso Pedraza is off to Leeds. Matty Taylor swaps Bristol Rovers for Bristol City.

‘#WelcometoBristol’. That’s banter, people.
But the big one is a former Arsenal ace joining Crawley on loan. That’s right, Rhys Murphy has left Forest Green Rovers.
15.50: Hey, Sean Murray has joined Colchester on loan from Swindon.
15.44: The BBC say that Blackpool have signed Raul Correia from Radcliffe Borough, and who am I to disbelieve them?

15.33: Leyton Orient’s Ollie Palmer has joined Luton. Things are hotting up just as I prepare to eff off.
15.27: We have our biggest done deal of the day, with the news that Scott Hogan’s move to Aston Villa from Brentford has been completed. Just waiting for the official tweets.
15.25: People have been talking about possible Aston Villa signings all day, but nobody mentioned Jacob Bedeau. Now he’s signed.

15.14: Two more Football League loans have gone through. Reading’s Stuart Moore has joined Luton, while Kabongo Tshimanga of MK Dons has joined Yeovil.
15.10: Oh, Pep Guardiola says Manchester City are doing no more business. Which we knew.
15.01: There is every chance that this is your saga to go on until late this evening. Don’t shoot the messenger.
NUFC are increasingly confident of signing Andros Townsend from CPFC. Crucially, Townsend doesn't have to be on Tyneside to do the deal.

14.46: Sky Sports have now read John Percy’s tweet and are reporting that Sunderland’s bid for Leonardo Ulloa has been rejected. That one’s done. Jim White said that would happen too 🙁
14.43: Scott Hogan is at Villa’s training ground for a medical. Which is weird because Jim ‘in the know’ White said he would go to West Ham. How odd.
14.36: There is some chatter that West Ham made a serious attempt to re-sign Demba Ba, which is soaked in West Ham. Good work.
14.34: We did say that Mutch would leave, and it is indeed on a loan deal.

14.09: Another done deal, although it’s more an extension. Glenn Murray was on loan at Brighton from Bournemouth, and that deal has now been made permanent for a fee of £3m.

14.03: Quite a big picture that, isn’t it?
14.01: One move that is happening is Branislav Ivanovic’s move to Russia. As this picture proves. We’ll miss that rump.

13.52: The Championship really is the new Premier League on Deadline Day.
Sky Sources: Cheick Tiote has finally completed his protracted move to China.
— Keith Downie (@SkySports_Keith) January 31, 2017
13.47: Deadline day is 13 hours and 47 minutes old, and the only permanent arrival in the Premier League is Ranocchia at Hull. Wooooo!
13.45: Chongchun Yatai is to be Ighalo’s new club, by the way.
13.42: The ever-reliable John Percy reports that Sunderland’s offer for Leonardo Ulloa will be rejected, and that might be dead in the water. In Leicester’s defence, why would they sell a striker to a relegation rival who need a striker?
13.41: Weird rumour of the day:
Sky Sources: Lg 1 leaders #Scunthorpe have rejected extraordinary bid of £4m for striker Kevin Van Veen, from Chinese club Henan Jianye FC.
— Rob Dorsett (@RobDorsettSky) January 31, 2017
13.39: It looks like one of Liverpool’s kids could be leaving the club on a permanent deal, with Jordan Williams in talks with Charlton and MK Dons.
13.36: It does look like Odion Ighalo is going to move to China after all, despite hardly making positive noises about it. Looks like Watford will get their £25m, and laugh all the way to whichever high street bank they use.
13.34: Premier League news now, with Jordan Mutch having a medical at Reading ahead of a move from Crystal Palace. Guess that would be loan too.
13.32: Nottingham Forest have announced the loan signing of Joao Teixeira from Benfica. He had been on loan at Wolves until that deal was cut short to allow this one to happen. Deals. Are. Happening. Ish.
13.28: Former Premier League club set to sign ex-Man United star from European giant!
Ravel Morrison is joining QPR on loan from Lazio. Are we doing this right?
13.25: Adlene Guedioura will choose between Hull and Middlesbrough, and that’s an analogy for this whole window.

13.16: Steven Caulker is reportedly close to a move to Lokomotiv Moscow, and that’s just swell.
13.12: Another Newcastle issue to be sorted, and probably the biggest transfer of the day in the Premier League, is Andros Townsend’s potential arrivals from Crystal Palace. That’s been on and off throughout the window.

13.03: There had been talk that Ashley Fletcher might be leaving West Ham on loan to go to Leeds United, but Slaven Bilic says that the striker won’t be leaving the club. Shammy, Leeds.
13.01: Mamadou Sakho’s move depends on Crystal Palace agreeing to pay a £20m fee and wages of more than £100,000. Which is a bit mental.
13.00: Another Premier League loan departure. Leicester City’s Callum Elder has been recalled from his loan spell at Brentford and gone straight out to Barnsley.
12.55: Bury midfielder Tom Soares has joined Wimbledon. Remember when he was going to be a star?
12.50: Demba Ba has joined Besiktas. Demba Ba has a lovely smile. Both of those things are facts.
12.49: Fun fact – Angelino had already moved on loan during this window, but that deal was immediately cut short when Girona didn’t pick him.

12.24: One deal that really does look likely at some point is Mamadou Sakho joining Crystal Palace. He has apparently been spotted in London ahead of a deal. Go him.
12.15: We have news for Aston Villa. Well, Kaveh Solhekol has news.
Aston Villa agree deal to sign Scott Hogan from Brentford. Up to £15m. Hogan on way to medical. Rochdale get £3m (20% sell-on fee)
— Kaveh Solhekol (@SkyKaveh) January 31, 2017
That means Aston Villa now have three £10m-plus strikers until Ross McCormack leaves?
12.08: Good news, Hull fans. Your owners might want to sell every other player, but Marco Silva says that Andrew Robertson is going nowhere. £10m always sounded a bit cheap for a highly-rated full-back.
12.06: Change in the hotseat, but no change in the piping hot transfer news and banter. Or something.
11:58: Now this is an excellent snippet on the collapse of Carl Jenkinson’s move to Crystal Palace.

So it seems that Andrea Belotti stuff was exciting but very shortlived nonsense.
10:56: It looks very much like Mamadou Sakho will choose Crystal Palace over Southampton…
Breaking | Liverpool defender Mamadou Sakho is in London to negotiate with Crystal Palace, according to Téléfoot https://t.co/zx9pDhgZOQ

10:50: According to reports in the north east, Andros Townsend is ‘eager’ to re-join Newcastle on loan and is now just waiting for the two clubs to agree a loan fee. It really has gone badly.
10:45: One likely deal we haven’t mentioned yet today is a swap deal which would see Neil Taylor move to Aston Villa and Jordan Ayew move to Swansea. Sensible from Swansea but where’s the centre-half they desperately need?
10:42: There’s bugger all likely to happen in Manchester today so just ignore nonsense links with Seamus Coleman and Yannick Carrasco.
Ashley Young to stay, zero business for #mufc today; Tosin Adarabioyo to stay at #mcfc : usual caveat of never say absolutely never applies
— jamie jackson (@JamieJackson___) January 31, 2017
10:38: Maybe that Andrea Belotti stuff was nonsense…
@ItsMrBlueGuy never said anything about Belotti. He will stay at Torino. 100%
— Fabrizio Romano (@FabrizioRomano) January 31, 2017
10:34: Little else has been said of Chelsea’s reported pursuit of Andrea Belotti but plenty has been said and written about Schalke turning down a bid from The Blues for full-back Sead Kolasinac. Chelsea are said to be very annoyed that Schalke have seemingly u-turned.
10:32: So where is Emmanuel Adebayor? Well, he is in Turkey and he is really very orange…

10:28: So what about West Ham? Are they signing anybody? Well, not a right-back anyway…
Over the course of two windows, in all of world football, no right-back is good enough apparently. https://t.co/kGtHrmQoRd

10:25: The Liverpool Echo claim that the club may have to relent and allow Mamadou Sakho to leave the club on loan as neither Southampton nor Crystal Palace are willing to pay £20m. They would instead take him on loan and pay all his wages.
10:14: DONE DEAL
Good luck in the Netherlands, Gedion ? https://t.co/P8SlPxdObf

10:13: Poor Ashley Young. It looks very much like he will be staying at Manchester United for Europa League duty.
10:10: There has been much talk of Moussa Dembele or Andrea Belotti for Chelsea but Inter Milan winger Jonathan Biabany has also been strongly linked. That would be a loan.
10:08: We are expecting Andros Townsend to leave Crystal Palace for Newcastle on loan today. Where did it all go wrong? Check out our ten worst transfer deals of this Premier League season.
10:05: We have already heard that Udinese defender Molla Wague is at Leicester for a medical, but will he be joined by Gaston Ramirez? Aitor Karanka has said he is 100% sure that the Uruguayan is staying put.
10:03: The claim from Squawka is that Chelsea will bid £25m for Celtic striker Moussa Dembele. That really does not sound enough.
09:59: Two hours into our live transfer blog and Marvin Emnes has joined Blackburn on loan and Carlos de Pena has left Middlesbrough for Real Oviedo on loan. #buzzing
09:57: We keep reading that Seamus Coleman has distanced himself from Manchester United rumours. All of them? This has been a lazy link since time began.
09:52: Crystal Palace could be the biggest spenders of the transfer window. Talks are ongoing with Liverpool and Mamadou Sakho, while Olympiacos midfielder Luka Milivojevic could be incoming…
Crystal Palace have agreed a fee with Olympiacos for Milivojevic. Could total 16 million euros (£13.75m).

09:41: Oh here we go. Sky Italia are reporting that Chelsea director Michael Emanalo is in Italy to seal a deal for Torino striker Andrea Belotti. He has scored 13 goals in 17 Serie A games this season. And he would probably – bizarrely – be cheaper than Moussa Dembele.
09:37: The MailOnline claim that Hull are also interested in former Sunderland midfielder Yann M’Vila, now of Rubin Kazan.
09:33: Sky Sports News man Tim Thornton is a true Yorkshireman; he sounds astonished that Andrea Ranocchia has turned up at Hull’s training ground IN A TAXI. Presumably he should have got the bus.
09:27: In striker move news today, Glenn Murray will join Brighton for £3m, Scott Hogan will join Aston Villa for £13m. Though there are questions over whether Hogan will want to join another Championship club when he has been dreaming of West Ham.
09:21: Struggling to believe the Molla Wague news?

09:18: The biggest money move away from the Premier Legaue today is likely to be Odion Ighalo for about £20m. It never lets us down, does it?
09:14: The biggest money move into the Premier League today is likely to be Manolo Gabbiadini to Southampton for an initial £14m. It’s that thrilling, folks.
09:13: West Brom have already dismissed as nonsense the earlier claims that a Chinese Super League club has offered silly money for Salomon Rondon. Debunked by 09.13. Nice.
09:12: So what’s happening in the north east?
If I was running a book today I'd go: 4-5 #SAFC sign Ulloa, 6-4 #NUFC sign Townsend, 33-1 #Boro sign anyone Karanka is happy with…
— Scott Wilson (@Scottwilsonecho) January 31, 2017
09:07: “It never lets us down, does it?” says the Sky Sports man as he relays news of a loan move to Leicester for Udinese and Mali defender Molla Wagué. It is difficult to contain ourselves.
09:05: Another likely loan is West Ham’s Reece Oxford to Reading.
09:04: Remember when Tim Krul was being linked with Arsenal? He is now having a medical with Watford. The poor bugger.
09:01: Celtic would ‘not consider’ a bid of less than £40m for Moussa Dembele. There is about a 0.05% chance of this happening.
08:57: We love Sky Sports News going around the grounds only to be told that no, nothing will be happening at Liverpool, Manchester City, Manchester United, Arsenal, Tottenham…in fact, the only money spent in this transfer window by a top-six side has been the £40,000 that the Gunners have spent on a non-league left-back.
#thfc It's transfer deadline day, it's all very quiet at Spurs and theres no cause for concern. Another sign of progress. Focus: Sunderland
— Ben Pearce (@BenPearceSpurs) January 31, 2017
08:39: Oooh, Sky Sports News are claiming that a Chinese Super League club have bid £57.5m for West Brom striker Salomon Rondon, who would earn £300,000 a week. Frankly, that’s all a bit mental.
08:26: So who could be busy today? Well, Hull are expected to make anywhere between one and five signings. A fee was agreed yesterday with Watford for Adlene Guedioura, while Inter Milan’s Andrea Ranocchia on loan.
08:21: One player unlikely to sign for Crystal Palace or West Ham today is Brentford’s Scott Hogan. Where is he going? Well…
Aston Villa are now as short as 1/3 to sign Brentford's Scott Hogan.

08:17: Mamadou Sakho reportedly wants ‘a few hours of reflection’ before he decides to join Crystal Palace, otherwise known as ‘a few hours of hoping that somebody not in a relegation battle comes in for him’.
08: 15: DONE DEALIO: Marvin Emnes has rejoined Blackburn on loan from Swansea.
08:10: The big potential transfer that is a) never going to happen but b) will sustain us all day, is the notion that Chelsea could bid £30m for Celtic striker Moussa Dembele. All arrows point to Chelsea deciding to wait until the summer, with Celtic indicating that it would take a mammoth bid in the region of £40m to persuade them to sell.
The only transfer likely to happen today between Celtic and Chelsea involves Craig Gordon, with Asmir Begovic set for a switch to Bournemouth.
08:00: “If you’re wondering where Emmanuel Adebayor is…” were the first words I heard on Sky Sports News this morning. Well, I wasn’t. Welcome to transfer deadline day.
