Dele Alli: Pochettino to thank for my fine form

Tottnenham midfielder Dele Alli has thanked Mauricio Pochettino for putting faith in him last season.

Alli was not expected to play a prominent role in Tottenham’s first team during his full season as a Spurs player following his move from MK Dons.

However, Alli enjoyed a memorable season, winning the PFA Young Player of the Year award and establishing himself at both club and international level. He is likely to start England’s first Euro 2016 game against Russia.

“It’s been really good for me and obviously I’ve been able to learn a lot – it would be hard not to learn a lot when you’re playing with this group of players and the manager we’ve got here,” Alli said.

“I knew how good the team was when I signed here, that was probably why I didn’t expect to play as much as I have and I knew I was going to have to fight for my place.

“Thankfully when I got the opportunity I took it and I have to thank the manager a lot for what’s happened to me so far, how he’s helped me and put a lot of trust in me. It all made it easy for me to go out there and play my football.

“It was an enjoyable experience playing here at Tottenham over the last season and hopefully there will be many more good times to come.”
