Gerard Deulofeu has responded to reports Barcelona could activate a buy-back option on the winger by insisting that he hopes to stay at Everton for “a lot of years”.

The 21-year-old joined the Toffees on a permanent deal in the summer after an initial loan at Goodison Park during the 2013-14 season.

Deulofeu has been in fine form since returning to Merseyside, sparking fears that Barca could trigger a clause enabling them to buy back the Spaniard for around £6.3million next summer.

But, speaking at an Everton Optimum event on Tuesday, Deulofeu said: “I am so happy to be staying here a long time.

“When I stayed here the first time, I love Everton and now I’ve come back.

“I hope to stay here for a lot of years.”
