Thomas Tuchel has revealed the reason as to why Adnan Januzaj failed to impress at Borussia Dortmund on loan from Manchester United.
Winger Januzaj joined Bundesliga side Dortmund on loan on transfer deadline day in the summer, with the Belgian’s game time at Old Trafford uncertain.
But Januzaj failed to impress in Germany, with manager Tuchel not handing him a single Bundesliga start.
Januzaj featured for 160 minutes of Dortmund’s league campaign, while he started three games in the Europa League before the loan was terminated by the German club in January.
Tuchel questioned the 20-year-old’s ‘desire and attitude‘ at the club at that time, and now, speaking to FourFourTwo, the former Mainz boss has discussed Januzaj’s exit further.
“A part of him was always still in Manchester and we just couldn’t help him cut this umbilical cord,” Tuchel said.
“He didn’t wholly embrace Borussia. He always compared everything with how it had been at United.”
