Former Nigeria international midfielder Friday Elaho is baffled by Watford forward Odion Ighalo's exclusion from the current Super Eagles squad.
Head coach Sunday Oliseh named Emmanuel Emenike and Sylverster Igbonu as his attacking options for the Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Tanzania in Dar es Salaam on Friday, but Elaho is convinced Ighalo is the country's best striker.
"I don't understand why Oliseh excluded Ighalo from the team. As far as I'm concerned, the Watford man is the best striker we have now," he told The Punch.
"I was disappointed that he was not called; I believe every football lover was disappointed about his exclusion. Emmanuel Emenike cannot do it alone.
"For the past few months, Emenike has not been able to show potency as a striker as we used to know him. I think Oliseh should quickly bring Ighalo back to the team."
The former Brondby playmaker has no problems with Oliseh only calling up five players from the domestic league, saying now the squad has been announced it is down to the players to go out and get the result.
"It's about winning the match. This is the first assignment for the coach, and the players will need a lot of concentration to win," he added.
"Taking just five players from the domestic league is okay. When Wersterhof managed the team in the 1990s, he included only few home-based players in his final selection.
"He could have about five players from the domestic league for particular games. Oliseh understands how these things work, especially when it comes to blending players."
