England ‘disappointed’ as Dortmund recall starlet Sancho
England Under-17’s manager Steve Cooper has described losing Jadon Sancho as “a disappointment”.
Sancho has been recalled by Borussia Dortmund from the England squad for the Under-17 World Cup in India.
The former Manchester City forward featured heavily in the group stages, scoring three goals and assisting two as England won all three games.
But the 17-year-old will take no part in the knock-out stages after Dortmund recalled him with a view to playing him in the UEFA Youth League.
“Jadon (Sancho) loves playing for England and this team in particular so it’s sad to see him go,” Cooper said.
“It’s a disappointment for him because he very much enjoyed his time in India and relished the chance to play in a World Cup.
“I can only imagine Dortmund want him back to play in their first team at the weekend and I assume he will be starting for them, because I can’t think of a reason why you would take a player away from a World Cup.”
