Christian Eriksen is “ready for a step higher” than Tottenham, according to his former coach Frank de Boer.

Eriksen has enjoyed an excellent season with Spurs, scoring seven goals and assisting a further 12 in 31 Premier League appearances.

Harry Kane and Dele Alli have earned most of the plaudits, with both the club’s only representatives in either shortlist for Player of the Year or Young Player of the Year, but Eriksen has starred for Mauricio Pochettino’s side.

It emerged last week that La Liga giants Barcelona were monitoring the 25-year-old’s progress and De Boer, who coached Eriksen at Ajax, believes he is ready for “the highest level”.

“I think he can have a wonderful career,” De Boer told Danish daily Ekstra Bladet.

“First Ajax, then Tottenham, and then the highest level.

“I think he’s ready for a step higher.

“He has everything that a Barcelona player must have.

“He has an overview, he has a work ethic, and he kicks well with both legs.”
