An Everton steward has apologised after calling Liverpool fans “murderers” during a rant on social media.
Karen Flynn, who has overseen matches at Goodison Park since May last year, sparked fury after calling Reds fans “murderers” who “need to all be put down”.
Everton bosses said they were taking the matter “very seriously” and launched an internal investigation into Ms Flynn’s conduct.
A Facebook conversation in which Everton steward Karen Flynn appears to refer to Liverpool fans as ‘murderers’.
But the mum-of-five claimed the controversial comments were made “in the heat of the moment” and do not represent her true feelings about Liverpool supporters.
Speaking to the Liverpool Echo, she said: “I’m really sorry for what I wrote.
“I have two children who are Liverpool fans, I have nothing against Liverpool fans.”
Ms Flynn’s remarks came during a Facebook conversation about a refereeing decision during this weekend’s Norwich vs Liverpool match.
She described Reds supporters as “trackies wearing ugly as f*** w******”, adding: “They r f***** murderers but never their fault.”
Ms Flynn claimed her comments came after she received jibes on Facebook from Liverpool fans about her disabled child.
She added: “I said it in a temper because of what was being said about my child.
“I don’t think Liverpool fans are murderers, it was said in the heat of the moment.
“I’m a good person.
“What I said was stupid and I’m really sorry.”
