Everton’s new manager: I am your Favre

Daniel Storey

A new name in the Everton frame: Former Borussia Monchengladbach coach Lucien Favre.

Until now, Ronald Koeman and Frank de Boer were the two frontrunners for the Everton job, but The Sun claim that Favre has held discussions over taking over at Goodison.

We can’t help but suspect that The Sun were looking for an excuse to get ‘Arsene Wenger Everton’ in a URL, given that they label Favre as ‘Wenger’s best mate’.

Favre gained great praise for taking Borussia Monchengladbach into the upper reaches of the Bundesliga and the Champions League, but resigned in September 2015 after losing each of his first five league games this season.

Despite that setback, Favre is still well regarded in Germany. Whether that makes him the ideal candidate for Everton is another question entirely.

It’s also worth noting that Favre is available at 28/1 to be named Everton’s next manager, with 11 managers above him. They include Jose Mourinho, Manuel Pellegrini and David Unsworth.
