Saul Niguez is “happy” at Atletico Madrid, with the reported Manchester United target not looking to leave, according to his father.
The Daily Mirror claimed on Tuesday that United would make a move for central midfielder Niguez either this month or in the summer, with the Spaniard having impressed at Atletico.
Niguez, 21, has made 13 La Liga appearances this season, as well as featuring in all six of Atletico’s Champions League group stage fixtures.
The midfielder’s father, Jose Antonio Niguez, insists that the player is happy in Spain.
“I just heard about this through the newspapers and the TV, we knew nothing,” Niguez senior told Deportes Cope.
“He has always said he wants to succeed at Atletico Madrid. The kid is happy at the club, they are counting on him, the team is doing well, top of La Liga. A lot of things would have to happen for him to leave.”
The Mirror’s transfer story came with the claim that Niguez’s release clause was £18million, but the midfielder’s father has rejected this report: “Saul’s release clause is €45m.”
