Former Manchester United manager (and prolific author) Alex Ferguson believes that David de Gea can win Louis van Gaal the Premier League title.

Speaking at the second of his nationwide book launches at Bridgewater Hall in Manchester, Ferguson was interview for an hour in front of an audience. De Gea was one of a number of subjects covered.

De Gea was close to leaving Old Trafford on deadline day, but a pesky stall in administration saw him stay at United. The goalkeeper then promptly signed a new contract at the club.

“I think De Gea can actually win us the league,” Ferguson said. “We are second in the league.¬†We are in a good position because, (leaders Manchester) City hadn’t lost a game until last week and then United won at Southampton and the whole thing changes round.

“Chelsea have lost a couple of games, Arsenal have lost a game, if you are there around New Year’s Day then they will have a good chance.”

Ferguson also mused that Van Gaal might change his decision to leave Old Trafford at the end of next season, though the Dutchman has been adamant that he will not change his mind.
