Fowler: Liverpool need to hang onto ‘top quality’ Sturridge

Liverpool legend Robbie Fowler thinks Jurgen Klopp should try to keep Daniel Sturridge at the club.

The England international has been linked with a January move away from Anfield after making only four starts in 14 Premier League matches this season.

Reds boss Klopp recently insisted that Sturridge will still be at Liverpool come the end of the winter transfer window and that will have been music to the ears of Fowler, who thinks the 27-year-old still has a vital role to play at the club.

“He’s a Liverpool player because he’s here. The media have an influence but I don’t know why because when he does play he scores goals,” Fowler told Omnisport.

“I think the problem for Daniel is the players playing ahead of him are playing tremendous and scoring lots of goals.

“Jurgen Klopp said last week that no players will be going so we’ll take his word for it.

“But look, a fit and firing Daniel Sturridge is top quality and we want top quality players at this club and we want him to stay.”
