Former Newcastle forward Hatem Ben Arfa is believed to be heading for a sensational transfer to Barcelona.

According to Friday’s  L’Equipe, former Hull City loanee Ben Arfa will ‘very probably’ join Barcelona this summer as a free agent.

The 29-year-old reportedly travelled to Barcelona on Sunday to meet club representatives and talk over a switch from his current side Nice.

Former Barca and Les Bleus star Eric Abidal is understood to have brokered the possible move with Ben Arfa out of contract in the summer.

Ben Arfa, who signed for Nice in January 2015 after being released from his Newcastle contract, has spoken of his appreciation for Nice after trusting him, but he is eager to play Champions League football and has set his heart on a move to Catalonia.

The French publication claim a source believes ‘things have advanced well’ and a move will be hammered out by next month.

AC Milan, Besiktas, Villarreal, PSG and Lyon are all interested in the former Marseille forward, but he looks destined to move to La Liga.
