REP OF IRELAND 0-0 ENGLAND: Mercifully, the referee blows the final whistle. It ends in stalemate and it is doubtful that either manager will have learnt much from that. It is 20 years since these sides last met in Ireland and on that evidence there will be little call for an encore any time soon…
REP OF IRELAND 0-0 ENGLAND: Phil Jagielka gets in a muddle in possession just outside his own area and can be thankful that Jon Walters fouled him after he stumbled otherwise England were in big trouble.

REP OF IRELAND 0-0 ENGLAND: Barkley fires high and wide on the turn. Still no signs of a goal being imminent it must be said.

REP OF IRELAND 0-0 ENGLAND: Brady puts some pace on it, beats the England defenders but Murphy’s header is mistimed and goes wide. A decent chance.

REP OF IRELAND 0-0 ENGLAND: Henderson’s cross is headed out for a corner by O’Shea but we have a slight delay as Sterling is down having been caught by Brady.
REP OF IRELAND 0-0 ENGLAND: Nice combination between Henderson and Sterling before the former’s pass is just too heavy for Rooney.
REP OF IRELAND 0-0 ENGLAND: The corner just about dealt with by Joe Hart and now England have a free-kick as Hendrick goes into the back of Lallana.
REP OF IRELAND 0-0 ENGLAND: Ireland it is who look to build something, stringing a number of passes together around the back before a ball over the top finds McGeady down the left. His cross is blocked but he puts another ball in and Smalling has to put it out for a corner.

Of course, the FAI have been in the news all week as the FIFA scandal continues to make headlines. 90 minutes away from that distraction might be just what Martin O’Neill and his team need.
The visitors may be favourites for this afternoon’s clash but Irish fans will be confident that their side can avoid defeat, especially given it is 30 years since England won against the Republic.
So there is no debut for either Charlie Austin or Jamie Vardy. The two forwards will have to wait for their chance and hope to make an impression should they come off the bench.

Roy Hodgson’s England are unbeaten in eight games this season, winning seven on the spin before a 1-1 in Italy in March. Ireland, meanwhile, drew at home to Poland in their most recent match and have lost just one of their last six – a 1-0 defeat to next weekend’s opponent’s Scotland at Celtic Park in November.
Hello and welcome to our live text commentary of today’s friendly international between the Republic of Ireland and England at the Aviva Stadium in Dublin. Both sides have important European Championship qualifiers next weekend but, given the rivalry, don’t expect either side to take it easy this afternoon. Kick-off is at 13.00 BST.
