Mohamed Salah is “the best player on the planet right now”, according to Steven Gerrard and Rio Ferdinand.
Salah scored twice and assisted two more as Liverpool raced into a 5-2 first-leg lead in their Champions League semi-final against Roma.
The Egyptian was in inspired form to put the Reds on the brink of next month’s final. We defy you not to enjoy this Liverpool side.
Gerrard and Ferdinand were effusive in their praise of the forward.
“He’s in the form of his life,” Gerrard told BT Sport.
“It’s difficult to compare him to your Ronaldos and Messis because they’ve done it for so long and they’ve been consistent year in, year out.
“But without a shadow of a doubt he’s the best player on the planet right now.”
Ferdinand agreed that the Egyptian could be declared the best around right now.
“I’ve run out of words to describe the way this guy is performing this year,” he said.
“Did we expect it at the beginning of the season? No. But he’s shown here that you can go away, work at your game and you can come back and go beyond what anyone would imagine.
“His finishing tonight, he’s got to be regarded as, in form wise, one of, if not the, best player on the planet at the moment with the way he’s doing things.
“There isn’t anyone on the pitch when he plays he feels can stop him, nobody can seem to contain him.
“He gets into positions where defenders are not able to cope with him. He’s been a tremendous asset to this Liverpool team.”
