Steven Gerrard has praised the “infectious” nature of Jurgen Klopp, and says the manager has changed plenty at Liverpool “since the Brendan era”.

Klopp was appointed Liverpool manager in early October to replace the sacked Rodgers, and the German has reinvigorated the club, winning five of his opening nine games, and losing just one.

Gerrard, who left the club in the summer for LA Galaxy, has returned to Anfield to train with the club during the MLS off-season, and the former Reds captain is mightily impressed with the new boss.

Asked by BT Sport whether he had received an infamous Klopp hug yet, Gerrard replied: “I got one off him, they’re quite nice. He makes you feel good. He’s got that enthusiasm, very infectious and he makes players feel special.

“I’m an ex-player and I came out of his office feeling really good and really confident. That’s what he brings, he’s lifted the whole club, the fans, the supporters, the staff and he’s got Liverpool playing really well.”

Gerrard added that he was “very excited” to return to the club he spent 28 years at.

“I’m very excited to go in, obviously I’ve been there for a very long time and I’ve come out for a short period but I’m looking forward going into the new set-up to having a look at what Klopp’s all about tactically, what he demands of his players and how much he’s changed since the Brendan era,” Gerrard said.

“You just watch him in those interviews and you just love watching him. He’s got that infectious personality and I’m excited to go and spend some time with him.”
