Rio Ferdinand believes Liverpool can win the Champions League. Steven Gerrard delights in that fact.
Liverpool secured safe passage to the Champions League quarter-finals on Tuesday with a 0-0 draw against Porto, following their 5-0 first-leg demolition of the Portuguese side.
The Reds are one of three unbeaten teams left in the competition alongside Barcelona and Tottenham, and have been backed by many to make it even further.
Former Manchester United defender Ferdinand believes they are even capable of repeating their 2005 success.
Asked by Gary Lineker whether the Reds could win the Champions League, Ferdinand told BT Sport “yes”.
But before he could continue, Gerrard teased him by saying “he’s crying it in”. I don’t know what that means.
“You wouldn’t want to play Liverpool,” Ferdinand continued.
“I don’t care who you are in this tournament now that front three when they’re on fire, the way they play, the intensity, going to Anfield – a difficult place to go and the pace they’ve got in that team.
“They’re going to be a hard proposition for any team in this tournament.”
