Giggs believe Man United can still have ‘brilliant’ season

Ryan Giggs believes that finishing second in the Premier League and winning a trophy would be a brilliant season for Manchester United.

United are 16 points behind Manchester City in the Premier League and were knocked out of the League Cup by Bristol City. They face Sevilla in the second leg of their Champions League last-16 tie, but are still in the FA Cup.

There has been criticism of manager Jose Mourinho, but Giggs believes that is misplaced.

‘Will United finish runners-up? I think it is the stage of the season where you just want to build momentum,’ wrote Giggs in his Sky Sports column.

‘Regardless of what your priority is, if you win in the league then it rolls on to the FA Cup and then the Champions League.

‘I think it is a race with Liverpool for second place. They will be hugely motivated to finish above United and the clash between the two sides next weekend could prove decisive.

‘Second place and a trophy is a brilliant season for United and a step up from last year, while providing a platform for thinking they can challenge for the title next season.’
