Gossip: Are Sanchez and Ozil worth £290k/week?

SANCHEZ AND OZIL WANT POGBA WAGES
We do enjoy the idea that Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil are working together – not only on the pitch but to get themselves higher wages. We covered this yesterday but it’s worth repeating that the Evening Standard claim that Arsenal’s star duo want pay parity with Paul Pogba, who earns £290,000 a week at Manchester United.

That would constitute a wage hike for both of over 100%, which does not sound awfully likely; the Gunners are apparently unwilling to break through £200,000 a week.

Nobody has told Arsene Wenger, it seems, because he says: “I believe personally, and maybe I am a bit naive, that it’s more about getting to meet the player’s needs. That’s more about the way the club has values, the way the club has ambition, the way the club respects the players.”

ARSENAL WANT LEFT-BACK NEXT SUMMER
The headline rom the Daily Telegraph is that Arsenal will not spend in January, but we are not remotely surprised by that ‘news’. Arsenal’s only obvious weakness is in their cover at right-back, with Mathieu Debuchy injured and Carl Jenkinson way below the required standard.

Hidden at the bottom is the claim that Arsenal will look to sign a left-back next summer ‘with the long-term future of Kieran Gibbs still in doubt’. Clearly it’s time for club and player to part ways.

FONTE CAN LEAVE FOR JUST £5M
Southampton’s captain available for just £5m in January? That sounds like a no-brainer for Everton; after all, he’s definitely better than Phil Jagielka right now.  The Guardian quote a Portuguese website who say that Fonte’s reluctance to sign a new contract means that the Saints have told him he can leave the club.

Southampton turned down an offer of £7.6m from Everton for Fonte in the summer, while Manchester United were strongly linked with a move. Do they need him after the Phil Jones phoenix rose from the flames?
