Because transfer gossip never dies, people. Not even after the deadline has passed…
STURRIDGE TO ARSENAL?
Let’s start picking apart the aftermath of a frankly ridiculous summer with a visit to Anfield, shall we? Liverpool completed their transfer incomings well before Deadline Day – although they are transfer window losers in our eyes – and so concentrated solely on the exit door. Many left, including poor Mario Balotelli on a free.
Daniel Sturridge almost joined him, if reports are to be believed. Goal.com claim that representatives of the striker contacted Arsenal over a potential late move. The 26-year-old is ‘frustrated’ at Liverpool, and is a boyhood Gooner.
It is claimed that while Arsene Wenger was happy with his business, he was open to adding ‘world class’ players if the opportunity presented itself. An offer was never forthcoming however, and Sturridge was left where he began.
‘Goal understands that Liverpool remain firm in their stance that Sturridge is staying put,’ they add, ‘indicating that he would not be let go to a direct rival, with the Reds not receiving any offers for the player as of Tuesday afternoon’.
All b*llocks, isn’t it?
One of the weirder stories from a busy Deadline Day concerned the future of Morgan Schneiderlin.
It emerged early on Wednesday that Tottenham were supposedly interested in signing the French midfielder from Manchester United, but it was too late to push a deal through.
Well, according to the Daily Mail, it was Jose Mourinho who blocked the transfer. Ian Ladyman claims that Schneiderlin remains part of the Portuguese’s first-team plans, despite the fact he has played just five minutes this season. Still, with four competitions to contend with, the former Southampton midfielder will be used eventually.
‘Spurs are likely to return to the subject in January if the 26-year-old’s game-time at United doesn’t improve,’ Ladyman adds. Lovely.
