IS THERE ANYBODY WHO HASN’T BEEN LINKED TO CHELSEA?
Yesterday, the Gossip column passed comment that a helluva lot of players were being linked with a move to Chelsea. We make it more than 30 since Antonio Conte was announced as their new manager. You can add a few more names to that list today.
Let’s do this in organised fashion:
– Conte wants to sell Nemanja Matic to Juventus, according to the Daily Star. He also plans to bring winger Juan Cuadrado, 27, back from a loan spell in Turin. Midfielder Oscar and striker Diego Costa could also be told their futures lie elsewhere, while John Obi Mikel “has an offer from Turkey he may be encouraged to take”.
– Conte though is keen on retaining midfielder Eden Hazard, 25, and he also wants to be part of Conte’s regime at Stamford Bridge after deciding to stay at Chelsea rather than pursue a possible move to Paris St-Germain or Real Madrid, says the Daily Mail. The Daily Mail are also playing catch up on the ‘Gonzalo Higuain to Chelsea’ story – a day after it was reported in the Daily Mirror.
– Finally, Conte is going to be a busy boy during and after the Euros because he is interested in bringing Inter Milan goalkeeper Samir Handanovic to Chelsea to replace Thibaut Courtois, claim the Daily Express.
RENATO SANCHES ‘PREPARED AND EXCITED’ FOR UNITED MOVE…
Well of course he bloody is. Renato Sanches’ name just will not go away, and it seems increasingly likely that Manchester United will indeed pay the £45m transfer fee required to sign the 18-year-old. The success of Anthony Martial sure has given them the bug.
The report comes from Portuguese newspaper Record, who claim that Sanches and his family are well aware of the negotiations between United and Benfica, and are preparing for the midfielder to move to England. They also claim that the fee could rise to £63m if bonuses are realised.
As with Martial, if United do end up paying full price then it means the deal has gone very well indeed.
…BUT AUBAMEYANG TO STAY PUT
After months of being told that Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang could leave Borussia Dortmund (and possibly come to Manchester), there has been an about turn.
It’s the Daily Mirror who bring us the news, reporting that United’s mission to sign the Gabon international will end in nothing but frustration. That’s because Dortmund are intent on holding on to their man for another season, before allowing him to join Real Madrid. It all seems perfectly logical.
