ARSENAL STILL WANT MICHAEL CARRICK
Arsene Wenger has a proper soft (or should that be hard?) spot for Michael Carrick. Having tried and failed three times to sign the midfielder during his time at Arsenal, the Daily Mirror report that Wenger will try and tempt him again on a free this summer.
This could all be redundant if Carrick signs a new contract at Old Trafford, but he now only has four months left on his deal. Should the midfielder leave United, Wenger will aim to recruit him as part of a midfield ‘overhaul’.
The Mirror also mention Paris St Germain are interested in signing Carrick. Erm… has everyone forgotten how old he is?
WATFORD RESIGNED TO LOSING IGHALO
Oooh, this is quite interesting. We’re sticking with the Mirror, and Darren Witcoop’s claim that Watford are resigned to losing star striker Odion Ighalo this summer.
They say that Manchester United, Arsenal and Chelsea are all interested in the striker, and that Watford have an agreement to let him leave for £12m at the end of the season. They’re bloody mad if that’s true.
The Mirror also discuss Ighalo’s replacement at Watford, Granada striker Isaac Success. Given that the Pozzo family own both clubs, the Mirror’s phrase ‘planning a raid’ seems a little unnecessary. We reckon the negotiations will go pretty smoothly.
SPURS AND WEST HAM FIGHT FOR BATSHUAYI
Michy Batshuayi is quickly becoming the next Leandro Damiao, continually linked with a move to Tottenham despite not actually existing.
The Mirror say that ‘Tottenham are locked in a tug of war with London neighbours and rivals West Ham over £25million-rated striker Michy Batshuayi’.
We did also really like this line:
‘Spurs believe their chances will increase even further if they win the league or secure Champions League football.’
Can’t argue with that.
GUARDIOLA BANNED FROM SIGNING BAYERN PLAYERS
That’s an ‘exclusive’ from the Daily Star, who somehow seem to have got ahead of every single German media outlet. Top work guys!
They say that Guardiola has been ‘banned’ from signing players from his old club.
Quick note: You don’t have to ‘ban’ a manager from signing your players. You just reject the offers as and when they come in.
