BLUES EYE ENGLAND TRIO

Chelsea look set to be the busiest of the big hitters as the transfer deadline approaches this week.

Antonio Conte is looking to strengthen his midfield by targeting not one, not two, but three England internationals.

Numerous outlets suggest the Blues will use Sunday’s meeting with Everton to discuss Ross Barkley, with the Blues loking to ‘rebuild bridges’ after the two clubs clashed over the London side’s pursuit of John Stones and Romelu Lukaku, who both went to Manchester instead.

The Guardian also says Chelsea will trump any offer Tottenham make for Barkley.

The Blues are said to be feeling even more confident over the prospect of signing Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain.

According to The Sun, the utility man has turned down Arsenal’s offer of a new contract worth £180,000 per week and with only a year remaining on his current deal, Chelsea feel £35million will be enough to tempt the Gunners into allowing the 24-year-old to move across the capital. With Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil also a year from free agency, Arsenal are understood to be reluctant to lose all three for nothing next year so Oxlade-Chamberlain may be allowed to leave.

The Guardian reports Chelsea are also planning on returning to Leicester with another offer for Danny Drinkwater. The Foxes rebuffed a bid of around £15million – fair do’s, that’s peanuts – and are wanting closer to £30million but with the player keen to go, a compromise is expected to be reached.

ARSENAL’S BENZEMA LINK REHASHED

We almost made it to the end of the summer without a Karim Benzema to Arsenal story. But Diario Gol suggest there could be a late twist.

The Spanish outlet claims Arsenal could make a bid for the Real Madrid striker if Alexis Sanchez leaves, which the Guardian says Manchester City will try to make happen this week.

Real are said to be keen to recruit this week and the sale of Benzema would facilitate that. It won’t happen, though…
