BARCA BACK FOR COUTINHO
The international break is the same in Spain as England; there are newspapers to fill and you can’t expect them to keep writing about a friendly against Costa Rica. So Thursday is Philippe Coutinho day again at Sport, with a front-page headline of NUEVA OFERTA POR COUTINHO. Now we don’t know much Spanish but we are hazarding a guess that Barcelona are preparing a new offer for Coutinho.
That offer will apparently be worth £106m and as Sport say – via Google Translate: ‘The environment of the player presses so that the Brazilian can dress as Blaugrana from January.’
OZIL AVAILABLE FOR £30M IN JANUARY
Why would anybody pay £30m for Mesut Ozil in January when they can get him for nothing next summer? Well of course they wouldn’t but that is the price being mentioned by the Daily Star in their exclusive. They claim that Manchester United boss ‘Jose Mourinho is a huge fan of the German, having coached him at Real Madrid’, and could move for him in January. Well he could. But would United really sanction the purchase of a player who will cost nothing in just a few months?
Oh and ‘Starsport understands the north Londoners want a similar fee for Sanchez, of at least £30m, if Manchester City revive their interest in January’. But boss Arsene Wenger ‘would prefer a swap deal involving Sanchez and Paris St-Germain midfielder Julian Draxler’, it says here. We bet he would.
JACK IS A WANTED MAN
And who wants him? Not Gareth Southgate right now. And not Arsene Wenger unless it is Thursday. But the Daily Mirror claim that West Ham, Swansea and Real Betis all want to sign the occasional Arsenal midfielder on loan in January. What a choice. The latter sounds more appealing but unfortunately, that might not get him a World Cup place.
Wilshere himself says: “At the moment I am concentrating on the now. The future will take care of itself. All I have got to do is stay fit and play my football. I want to stay at this club – I have said that many times.” He claims Wenger has reassured him that he will play. One day.
CHELSEA TO SPEND, SPEND, SPEND
After a frustrating summer, Chelsea are reportedly planning ‘a major January spending spree’ (Mirror) that will involve another move for Ross Barkley despite him turning them down in favour of a Tottenham move that never materialised. And they also want a big-name striker as back-up for Alvaro Moraya and that man could be Crystal Palace striker Christian Benteke. Do they know that they are both injured?
The Mirror add: ‘Chelsea also still want Juventus left-back Alex Sandro after targeting him in the summer but may not be able to get him mid-season either — although that will not stop them from launching big money bids.’
