GOTZE CLOSING IN ON LIVERPOOL MOVE
To the Sunday Mirror now, and their report that Bayern Munich are fearful that Mario Gotze wants a move to Liverpool.
In truth, Bayern can’t be that bothered or they would actually start giving Gotze regular first-team football. The form of Kingsley Coman and Douglas Costa and return of Arjen Robben means that a place in wide midfield in Bayern’s side is difficult to establish. Robert Lewandowski’s goals means that he is the only candidate to start up front.
Bayern would surely sell Gotze if they can £30m for him, and Liverpool and Jurgen Klopp might be the ideal people to make that happen. An attacking midfield of Gotze, Philippe Coutinho and Roberto Firmino? Purrrrrrrrr…
UNITED READY FOR A CLEAROUT? INCLUDING DEPAY?
Well, The Sun have been busy on Easter Sunday. Think this is their fifth Manchester United ‘exclusive’ of the week.
Mike McGrath claims that United will clear out their squad this summer by getting rid of Memphis Depay, Morgan Schneiderlin, Sergio Romero, Marcos Rojo and Phil Jones. This is pretty ballsy chat.
You won’t mind if we keep a tally to see how many of these five actually leave. We reckon Romero, possibly Rojo and that’s that. Depay and Schneiderlin would both be really surprising.
RODGERS IN AT SWANSEA NEXT SEASON
Oh Brendan. When all was going well at Liverpool, wonder if Rodgers thought that his next job might see him going back to Swansea? More likely were thoughts of England, Manchester City and even Chelsea.
It’s another ‘exclusive’, this time for the Sunday Express. Neil Fissler claims that ‘BRENDAN RODGERS will return to management with Swansea City from the start of next season’, and that ‘a deal is already in place’. Big talk.
It must be said that Francesco Guidolin has done a pretty good job at Swansea since his appointment, and has spoken more than once of his desires to stay on beyond the end of the season. Watch this space.
OH LOOK, CITY AND POGBA CHAT AGAIN
Manchester City have reopened talks regarding the potential signing of Juventus midfielder Paul Pogba, claims the Sunday Mirror.
City have already agreed a deal in principle to sign Borussia Dortmund midfielder Ilkay Gundogan for £25million, the newspaper says, but Pep Guardiola has apparently told City’s director of Football Txiki Begiristain he wants more signings in the bag before the European Championship begins on June 10.
City were put off by Pogba’s £75million asking price and £300,000-a-week wage demands last summer, but is back at the top of the club’s list of targets as they prepare for the arrival of Guardiola as manager.
