HELP FOR ED WOODWARD?
Interesting news from The Sun now, and it’s an exclusive from Dan King. Poor Neil Custis.
King reports that Manchester United are close to appointing a new director to help Ed Woodward in his role, with Peter Cowgill the name in the frame.
Cowgill, 62, is ‘the man behind the revival of the JD Sports empire’, and a lifelong United fan. He has also turned around the JD Sports brand by forming close ties with Nike and Adidas, which will go down very nicely at Old Trafford.
The Sun’s story also uses this anecdote from United We Stand fanzine: ‘When some players tried to use the indoor pitch at Carrington last week, they were told they had to go back outside because it was being used to film adverts for the Far East markets.’
Hahahaha, jesus. Football’s f**ked.
CHELSEA EYE VIDAL MOVE (OR NAINGGOLAN)
Chelsea’s managerial search looks to be nearing its conclusion ahead of schedule. Various papers report that Antonio Conte could be signed and sealed (if not yet delivered) as early as March, with his exit from the Italian national team after Euro 2016 confirmed.
There is another interesting development coming from Gianluca di Marzio. The Italian journalist claims that Chelsea are aiming to welcome Conte to the club by signing his former Juventus midfielder Arturo Vidal.
We’re sure that Chelsea would prefer to land Paul Pogba, but that’s almost certainly not going to fly. Is Vidal the next best thing?
Elsewhere, The Daily Star say that Conte wants to make Roma midfielder Radja Nainggolan his first signing at Chelsea. Shall we just get him in the job first?
ARSENAL STEP UP IGHALO INTEREST
To the Daily Mirror now, and John Cross’ claim that Arsene Wenger is ‘stepping up his interest’ in Watford striker Odion Ighalo.
‘Watford may have to sell if they can an (sic) offer of around £20m and Arsenal, Chelsea and Atletico Madrid have all looked at the Nigerian forward,’ Cross says. Why may they have to sell?
Cross also says that Wenger ‘has identified 26-year-old Ighalo as one of the strikers at the top of his shortlist for summer strikers’.
Call us grumble guts for being entirely underwhelmed.
LIVERPOOL EYE CAMACHO
Finally to Bleacher Report, who claim that Liverpool are set to open talks over the signing Ignacio Camacho from Malaga.
The news comes from Bleacher Report ‘Insider’ Dean Jones, who believes that Liverpool will pay £7m for the holding midfielder.
Camacho, now 25, joined Malaga from Atletico Madrid in 2011. He has won one cap for Spain, a 1-0 friendly defeat to Germany in 2014.
