THE NEW COUTINHO?
Liverpool have a decision to make about Philippe Coutinho. But according to the Sunday People, Jurgen Klopp knows who will replace the Brazilian if the club decide to sell:
‘Stunned Jurgen Klopp wants £60million-rated Lorenzo Insigne if he has to replace Barcelona target Philippe Coutinho.’
The problem of course is that Napoli do not want to sell, but being armed with £100m can prise doors open. The Italian international scored 20 goals last season from midfield so would be an excellent addition to a Liverpool side missing Adam Lallana through injury and potentially Coutinho through transfer.
If Napoli block a move for Insigne, Klopp will reportedly turn to the Bundesliga with 21-year-old German Max Meyer a long-standing target.
CHELSEA BACK FOR DRINKWATER
Anybody watching Chelsea lose to Burnley on Saturday would agree that the champions need new recruits in midfield, especially with Cesc Fabregas seeing red. They really could do with new recruits before they face Tottenham next week.
According to the Daily Telegraph, Chelsea are ready to return with a second bid for Danny Drinkwater, who is happy to leave Leicester to be back-up for the champions. They will bid more than £25m but fear that the Foxes will not budge for less than the £40m Chelsea received for Nemanja Matic.
The spending will not stop there, with interest retained in Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Ross Barkley, wing-backs Serge Aurier and Joao Cancelo, Virgil van Dijk and Danny Rose. They need it.
ARSENAL GIVE UP ON LEMAR
‘Arsenal are unlikely to make any further signings this summer,’ say the Mail on Sunday, who claim that the Gunners have had to reluctantly accept that Monaco do not want to sell French winger Thomas Lemar.
All focus will instead be on culling a massive squad, with buyers needed for Mathieu Debuchy, Kieran Gibbs, Carl Jenkinson, Lucas Perez and Joel Campbell, none of which made Arsenal’s squad for the opening Premier League game of the season against Leicester.
The report goes on to say that Mesut Ozil will sign a new contract and Alexis Sanchez has accepted that he will remain at the club for a season. A question mark is still hovering over the name of Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, who they could lose for nothing next summer.
