Gossip: Liverpool to sign two more exciting midfielders?

Ryan Sessegnon is the biggest deal in the Football League right now. At 17, he’s one of the best players for a team with aspirations of promotion to the Premier League. So it’s hardly any surprise that every big club in the land is sniffing around him.

The Daily Express say that Sessegnon has made up his mind where he would prefer to move, and that club is Liverpool. Jurgen Klopp has shown faith in young players and is playing an exciting brand of football, but we are a little surprised that Sessegnon doesn’t think Tottenham is a better option. He’s hardly like to usurp Mane on the left of Liverpool’s forward line, and a move to north London would cause less of an upheaval in his personal situation.

Still, this is the Express. Nothing is confirmed yet.

Bigger Liverpool news comes from French outlet Le10Sport. They claimed late on Tuesday that a deal between Monaco and Liverpool for the sale of Thomas Lemar has virtually been agreed. Monaco have been holding out for £88m, but the suspicion is that they won’t get quite that much.

Still, if Liverpool really have a got a deal done then that squad is beginning to look many different strands of sexy, in terms of depth and quality. Sadio Mane, Mohamed Salah, Roberto Firmino, Dominic Solanke, Danny Ings, Ben Woodburn, Rhian Brewster, Adam Lallana, Naby Keita, Thomas Lemar, Jordan Henderson, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Georginio Wijnaldum and James Milner competing for six positions, is it?

Le10Sport reckon that the move could be announced in the next few days. Our advice: Don’t hold your breath.

Oh wow, we didn’t expect this. Now we’re not sure if Abdoulaye Doucoure’s agent has the Adrian Kajumba of the Daily Mirror on speed dial, but he at least owes him a pint or two. Kajumba has a story on Wednesday which says that Doucoure is now wanted by Manchester United as well as Tottenham, Liverpool and Arsenal.

Doucoure has been excellent this season, of that there is no doubt. But he’s also made it pretty clear with well-timed leaks that he would like to move to a bigger club soon. At 25, this is his chance to make the most of good form and establish himself at an elite club.

‘It is the 25-year-old’s athleticism and dynamism, as much as his technical ability, which has caught United’s eye as Mourinho plots his midfield overhaul,’ writes Kajumba. These are big, big words.

Given the current circus at Arsenal, it seems a bit hopeful to have any serious transfer rumours. So much depends on which competitions they are playing in next season, whether the manager stays or goes and who replaces him that it is a little far-fetched to believe that they are making meaningful progress on signing players.

Still, that doesn’t stop Tuttosport. They say that Arsenal are hopeful of signing Benfica’s Bryan Cristante for a fee of around £27m. But then they say that West Ham, Watford and Liverpool are also interested. The first two in that list would seem more likely destinations for Cristante, who is currently on loan at Atalanta.
