UNITED THE ONLY CLUB TO GO FOR ZLATAN
The rumours about Zlatan Ibrahimovic aren’t going to go away, whatever his reported £600,000-a-week wage demands may make you think. The Paris St Germain’s next destination is going to be the first big saga of the transfer window.
Hot on the heels of Sky Sports claiming that Manchester United will approach Ibrahimovic as long as Louis van Gaal leaves – leaked by Jose Mourinho’s camp, perhaps? – comes a line from the Daily Star. They’ve taken their lead from L’Equipe.
L’Equipe are reporting that United are the only club to make Ibra a serious offer, which we can well believe. The striker has already said that he wants to move to England, leaving Chelsea and Manchester City as the only other two likely options. Both have other things on their minds, with new managers appointed but not installed.
CITY TO SIGN £35M LAPORTE
For so long, Manchester United were considered to be Aymeric Laporte’s likely destination if he left Athletic Bilbao, with Barcelona as their most serious rivals. However, the Daily Mirror have got news for you.
They claim that not only have Manchester City spoke to Bilbao about a move, but that Laporte himself has already agreed in principle to a £35m move. Fast work from Txiki Bergiristain.
The Mirror also say that this deal does not affect City’s continued pursuit of John Stones. It would be frankly mental to have Eliaquim Mangala, Nicolas Otamendi, Vincent Kompany, Stones AND Laporte. A cool £150m in transfer fees?
UNITED TO RIVAL CHELSEA FOR MANOLAS
Roma centre-back Kostas Manolas is being targeted by Manchester United – despite long-time interest from Chelsea. The Greece international’s agent is reported to have held talks with senior figures at Old Trafford, according to Italian journalist Gianluca Di Marzio and as quoted by The Sun.
Incoming Chelsea boss Antonio Conte is reportedly a big fan of the Roma centre-back and he’s keen to sign him in the summer. Chelsea had previously held talks with the Serie A side to see if they could land him and the Blues still view him as a possible long-term replacement for defender John Terry.
LIVERPOOL INTERESTED IN DAHOUD
To the Guardian now, and their claim that Jurgen Klopp is prepared to go up against former club Borussia Dortmund in an attempt to bring Mahmoud Dahoud from Borussia Monchengladbach to Liverpool.
Dahoud is a central midfielder who has been getting rave reviews this season. Still just 20, the midfielder was born in Syria but has played for Germany’s Under-21 team. He’s started 23 Bundesliga games this season.
The Guardian claim that €30m would be enough to bring him to England. Klopp is certainly using his Bundesliga knowledge to shape his Liverpool transfer target list.
Dahoud also has one of the most pleasing names to say in European football. These things are important.
