MAN UNITED TO ENTER MANE TALKS
You could have had Sadio Mane, but instead you’re stuck with Wayne Rooney in that fabled No 10 position. Southampton forward Mane emerged as a surprise target for Manchester United late in this summer’s transfer window, and it appears that the club will renew their interest come January.
That’s the line from the deadly duo of Fichajes.net via the Metro. According to the Spanish outlet, Louis van Gaal has ordered the club to pursue a move for the in-form Senegalese front man, whose ‘big victory party’ against Chelsea – which ‘could be the tomb of Jose Mourinho’ has placed him back in the spotlight.
Mane has scored 11 goals in 37 Premier League games for Southampton, but that only really touches the surface of his talents. The 23-year-old will surely go for at least double the £10million Saints initially paid for him in 2014. Then they’ll just go and buy some relative unknown from the Netherlands and repeat the cycle.
SPURS GO BELGIAN AGAIN
Jan Vertonghen, Nacer Chadli, Toby Alderweireld and Mousa Dembele just isn’t enough Belgian for one club. Tottenham want more.
We brought you news on Spurs wanting Gent striker Laurent Depoitre a couple of days ago, but that was a report from a French radio station. This one comes straight from Belgian outlet Het Laaste Nieuws, who claim the north London side have sent scouts to at least three games to watch the 26-year-old.
The report also claims that Gent will demand at least 20million euros (£14million) for the signature of their striker, who has scored six goals in ten league games this season.
Considering Depoitre signed for Gent last summer for £700,000 and has scored just 18 goals in 49 appearances since, we don’t deem it too likely. For what it’s worth, Het Laaste Nieuws do say Saido Berahino remains Spurs’ main transfer target in January.
BARCELONA CONSIDERING KUYT SWOOP
Or, if you’re the Metro, it’s more: ‘Report: Barcelona eyeing shock transfer move for Liverpool hero – not Coutinho.’ Yet more stunning work.
This comes from Spanish daily Sport, who claim that Barca are considering a move for either Dirk Kuyt, Alvaro Negredo, Jonathan Soriano and more in a list of experienced 30-somethings who are more attainable with a stricter budget.
As an aside, the report from Sport finishes with this: Roberto [Fernandez, technical director] looks at the market, but dozens of agents are calling his phone with their players names, like Gomis, Defoe, Guerrero, Lucas Barrios and more.
Is Jermain Defoe’s agent contacting Barcelona?
STUNNING TRANSFER UPDATE FROM SUNDERLAND
Sam Allardyce wants to sign free agent Kevin Nolan if he is made manager of Sunderland, claim the Sun. Colour us shocked.
