MORE TALK OF OZIL TO UNITED
There have been whispers for weeks about Manchester United’s supposed interest in Mesut Ozil, but The Telegraph claims Jose Mourinho is indeed determined to sign the Arsenal playmaker.
Ozil is out of contract at Arsenal in the summer and the chances of him signing a new deal appear close to non-existent. So Mourinho is sniffing with intent around the player he signed for Real Madrid in 2010 and once labelled ‘the best No.10 in the world’.
Mourinho believes Ozil is the perfect player to solve his problematic No.10 position, with Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Juan Mata running out of chances. Jesse Lingard has done ok when he has been given the opportunity but you won’t win Champions Leagues or much else with a runner like Lingard as your main creative presence.
As we all know, if he is to leave, Arsenal would prefer that Ozil was out of sight and out of mind, and the Gunners are willing to do business in January if it means avoiding losing him to a domestic rival. But United would rather save £20-25million and take him as a free agent because, well, Ed Woodward.
Mourinho declined the invitation to deny any interest in Ozil ahead of United’s meeting with Arsenal today.
Meanwhile, The Sun say Ozil’s admission that he is ‘still in contact from time to time’ with Zinedine Zidane fuels speculation that he could return to Real. Which is obviously b*llocks.
LIVERPOOL AND BARCA SET TO FIND COMMON GROUND OVER COUTINHO
We are less than a month from the transfer window opening again so obviously the stench of bullsh*t around Philippe Coutinho is becoming more intense.
What seems clear is that Barca’s interest hasn’t gone away. According to Mundo Deportivo in Spain, Liverpool have decided upon a more reasonable price at which they are prepared to do business.
That figure is said to be £127million.
Reports earlier this week suggested Barca had been working on a cunning plan to tempt Liverpool, with the Catalan club said to be willing to pay £130million.
So that’s sorted, then. Ta-ra, Phil.
