Gossip: Reus for Arsenal, Kane for Man United

WENGER TARGETS REUS IF SANCHEZ GOES
This is genuinely new gossip from the Daily Mirror as they claim: ‘Arsene Wenger will make Germany star Marco Reus his No1 target if they lose Alexis Sanchez.’ Cross – who usually does have a steer on what is happening at Arsenal – claims that Wenger is a long-time admirer of Reus, who is set to return after a six-month injury lay-off, and could pay £30m for the German if Sanchez continues to stall on a new contract.

The Chilean – our PL player of the week – allegedly wants a £200,000-a-week contract and a buy-out clause, though we are struggling to work out who would pay him those sort of wages. His only real option could be Manchester City, though the Gunners are no longer in a position where they have to sell to a title rival unless there is very silly money on the table.

MAN UNITED ‘ALERTED’ BY KANE STAND-OFF
As much as we trust John Cross on Arsenal, we’re not entirely sure he has inside knowledge of Manchester United’s transfer plans; it all seems a bit 2+2 to be saying that Manchester United are monitoring Harry Kane’s transfer negotiations and it’s a bit rich to be claiming the story as an ‘EXCLUSIVE’ when we have read it elsewhere. Certainly, The Sun’s Neil Ashton claimed that Kane is ‘on the wish-list of Chelsea, Manchester United and Manchester City’ just five days ago.

We know that Kane wants a new contract and thinks he deserves parity with other England strikers like Daniel Sturridge (£130,000 a week) and Jamie Vardy (£120,000 a week) and we know that’s not within Tottenham’s strict pay structure. We also know that Manchester United need a new long-term striker. Do we believe that Kane will leave Tottenham for United? Not so much. We imagine a £100,000-a-week compromise is on the cards.
