ATLETICO THE LATEST CLUB IN FOR SANCHEZ
Oh goodie. Sunday has already brought claims that Arsenal are interested in paying £85m for Antoine Griezmann, and now their star player is being linked with a move in the opposite direction. Swap! Swap! Swap!
An exclusive in The Sun from Sunni Upal, who isn’t a name we’ve seen before on transfer stories and thus sets of our bullsh*t alarm, says that Sanchez has been offered £220,000 a week by Atletico.
Apparently Atletico see Sanchez as the perfect replacement for Griezmann, but that would mean buying him next summer. Arsene Wenger has repeatedly said that he won’t sell Sanchez before the end of his contract.
Anyway, Upal writes that Atletico will bid £35m for Sanchez. Let’s just see.
LIVERPOOL TO PAY £26.5M FOR PAREDES
Oh good, it’s another exclusive from one of The Sun’s new Italian correspondents Emanuele Giulianelli. Along with Alvise Cagnazzo, the pair are averaging one transfer exclusive every two days. As yet, not one of them has actually happened.
Today’s story is that Liverpool are to sign Roma midfielder Leandro Paredes for a fee of £26.5m. That’s because Jurgen Klopp is annoyed at his side’s form and believes that a signing will change it. Again, we beg to differ.
It’s worth pointing out that Paredes is not actually in the first-team picture at Roma this season, and Roma would be more than happy to sell him for that price. Whether Liverpool would be happy to pay it for a player out of form is another question entirely.
Sorry for sounding so cynical, but when either of these two actually get a story involving an English club buying a player from Serie A right, we’ll be a lot more likely to believe them.
TOTTENHAM IN FOR ZAHA
An interesting final line comes via another Sun exclusive – that’s three out of three. There has been talk of Tottenham interest in Wilfried Zaha for a while, but Mike McGrath claims that Ivory Coast’s early exit from the AFCON will persuade Tottenham to try again in the final days of the transfer window.
The basic gist is that Mauricio Pochettino may make a £25m move over the next two days, but that Sam Allardyce will probably tell him to bugger off anyway given that Zaha will be vital in keeping Crystal Palace’s head above water in the Premier League.
