Gossip: Sanchez to Chelsea, Matic to Man United

CHELSEA TO PUSH FOR SANCHEZ
This is from The Independent, who claim that ‘it is becoming increasingly likely that the Premier League champions will test Arsenal’s resolve over their star forward this summer’, but the message from the Gunners is that they would rather allow Sanchez to run down his contract than sell to a Premier League rival.

It has been five years since they sold Robin van Persie to Manchester United and they do not want to start that trend again, while Sanchez would ‘actually be perfectly happy to stay at the Emirates, so long as they qualify for the Champions League next season’. So it doesn’t sound like Chelsea’s pursuit of Sanchez will end in a transfer.

MOURINHO TO MOVE FOR MATIC?
The chances of Manchester United persuading Daniel Levy to sell them Eric Dier are so slim that attentions have turned elsewhere, according to the Manchester Evening News.  And the hard man they want for their central midfield is apparently Nemanja Matic, who could find himself surplus to requirements at Chelsea.

The MEN claim that Mourinho will have around £200m to spend in the summer and will target a centre-half (Michael Keane?) a central midfielder and two forwards. Matic could well be the central midfielder.

GYLFI RETURN TO SPURS?
Tottenham are interested in Ross Barkley but are put off by Everton’s £50m asking price for the Englishman, so will instead move for the cheaper Gylfi Sigurdsson, according to the Daily Star. They believe they can re-sign the Icelandic attacking midfielder from Swansea for £25m.

Would Sigurdsson be anything other than a squad player at Tottenham? Certainly, we would suggest that he might be better off playing regularly at Everton…
