Victor Valdes

Chelsea want Manchester United outcast Victor Valdes, John Stones is a Real Madrid target (of course he is), and Newcastle are willing to pay £15million for Charlie Austin in January…

VALDES TO CHELSEA
Victor Valdes is understandably frustrated at Manchester United. Now entering the autumn of his career, the Spaniard is forced to look on as David de Gea does his thing.

Quite why Valdes would choose to join Chelsea in his pursuit of first-team football, goodness only knows. The Independent claim that Jose Mourinho wants Valdes to provide instant back-up to Asmir Begovic, with Thibaut Courtois injured for two months.

In order for Valdes to leave United before the January transfer window opens they would have to cancel his contract, presumably paying him in the process. Is that really going to happen in order for them to help Chelsea out?

The most salient advice would be not to take your transfer rumours from CalcioMercato.com.

REAL MADRID WANT STONES (ISH)
Oh the Daily Star, how we admire your transfer cojones. They manage to have direct sources at some of the world’s biggest clubs, and today give us the inside track on a whopping potential deal.

The paper claim that Real Madrid will look to buy John Stones from Everton should they decide to sell Raphael Varane to Manchester United.

It’s all so gloriously unlikely, but you have to admire their chutzpah. We particularly like the ‘if they sell Varane’ bit. It’s a big if.

NEWCASTLE TO GO BACK FOR AUSTIN
Given that they look completely toothless so far this season, it isn’t a surprise to learn that Newcastle intend to go back in for Charlie Austin in January. The nagging question is why they didn’t do all they could to get the deal over the line in the summer.

It’s the Daily Express that report on the claim, mentioning a £15m fee. That’s pretty expensive for a player out of contract within six months.

However, The Sun out a spanner in the works by claiming that Austin would instead prefer to see out his contract and leave on a free transfer next summer. He would certainly increase his earning potential that way.
